The Food Net working group identifies projects that will help more of our community's residents have ready access to affordable, healthy food. A small group of folks, we always welcome new faces and new energy! For more information, contact Torrey at 244-8581. Click here for a list of local resources that provide food assistance on both a short- and long-term basis. Over the past several years, the Food Net group has worked to: - increase enrollment in free & reduced lunch program at the local public schools
- support the Food Shelf through food drives and public education
- support the Waterbury Senior Center by developing a website, lending a hand in their vegetable garden and helping facilitate menu conversations
- work with NOFA to promote the Farm-to-Table program
- support efforts to provide free lunch to children during the summer vacation
The Food Net group is a small group and we would love additional help! If you would like to get involved in these conversations and be able to affect immediate change on a local level, please consider getting in touch with Torrey or coming to one of our meetings. The working groups are project-oriented, with the goal that members sign up for only those activities that particularly interest them and that they have time for -- so you can control your obligations and your role yourself!
