The Waterbury-Duxbury Food Council (WDFC) works to strengthen community by supporting and building a sustainable, healthy food system.
We aim to: - Improve public awareness about individual healthy food choices and societal food issues;
- Expand local food production, distribution and consumption; and
- Increase access to healthy food for all.
We do this by: - doing research to better understand our local and regional food system;
- providing opportunities for community conversations about individual food choices as well as larger societal food systems and issues;
- developing and disseminating informative materials;
- identifying specific projects we can incubate, take on or become involved with that will advance our goals;
- advocating for specific improvements to our food system’s infrastructure;
- fostering connections among individuals interested in these issues -- including consumers, producers, businesses, social service providers and policy-makers;
- reaching out to and working with others whose interests and goals may align or intersect with ours; and
- being open to a wide variety of ways we can support improving individual food choices and making our food system more sustainable.
Frankly, we are in the midst of some reorganization... Having grown a lot since our initial inception in 2008, we are trying to make sure the growth makes sense and is itself sustainable... The above reflects where we are these days. Want to find out more? Please contact Rick Scharf. |
